Hello and Happy Winter to all.

We have ordered our seeds and updated our list. Yeah!!
Starting to get excited for this season. Lots of new things in store for us all.
We will keep you updated so keep looking us up.

In the mean time take advantage of this beautiful winter we are having and get out for some skiing, snowshoeing or whatever it is that you enjoy doing while the cold weather is upon us.

I can't believe it is already August!
I'm sure everyone is enjoying all their veggies. We have had: radishes, tomatillo, snow peas, cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans and eggplant.
Lots of great remarks on our extra information sent with the recipes each week. Thanks to Elisa's knowledge!! She will have a bit of a break her soon since (in case you didn't know) there will be a new arrival in the family soon. Her due date was yesterday and little Ella is being stubborned. (Had to put my made up word, thought it fit).
Please let me know if you are not going to be picking up your bags so that we don't waste your vegetables.

The farm is doing very well at this point.
Just about everything will be coming out all at the same time. I hope everyone is ready for some heavy bags!

Please let me know if you are interested in a canning class. I will put one together if we have enough interest. If we are going to do this we should have it before we get bombarded by tomatoes which will be in the next few weeks.

We have had some great recipes so far with radishes, snow peas, pickles and cucumbers.

It was nice to have the rain just recently which helped with bringing some life back to the plants.

It is getting closer and closer to our new season starting. Yeah!!

I don't know about you guys but I have been craving those fresh veggies for a long time.

We will send out an e-mail to all shareholders when we know when the first basket will start so be on the look out for that soon. Last year it started 2nd week of June. We hope to be close to that. The lettuce isn't popping up as quickly as hoped but maybe when the rain slows down we may see more growth??? Keep your fingers crossed :-))

Don't forget that this blog is for the shareholders to communicate with each other and swap recipes.

Hello to all and Happy Spring!!

Even though we have still been getting frost in some evenings and early mornings that hasn't stopped us. We have a new greenhouse & a new (to us) tractor.
The ground looks great, the greenhouse is getting filled up. Things are looking good!

In case you haven't heard, we will be at the Grand Rapids Museum 4/23 & 4/24 from 10:00am -3:00pm. They are hosting a Earth to Sky day and called us to be the CSA table. Thanks to everyone for getting our name out there!!

We have a few more opening but are filling fast so if you know anyone that is still interested let them know.

We will probably start the newsletter in May so be looking for that soon.

We have made some changes to the website and some pictures to "on the farm" section.

So glad to have the cold winter behind us and sunny summer ahead,

End of our 1st season

We had a wonderful 1st season! The weather gave us a bit of a problem with some storms but handled it as well as we could.
We have has so many compliments on the way things were handled this year and enquiries for next year.
We will not start taking applications and payment til after the holidays. It will be a first come first serve process.
If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with us either by e-mail or phone.

We hope that everyone enjoys the upcoming holidays and our beautiful Michigan winters. Lots to do outside in this wonderful state such as cross country skiing (which is my personal fav), tubing, snow shoeing, and nice brisk walks through the country side.

This will be the last blog posting until spring so Happy Holidays, be safe, have fun and get outside and get some fresh air through the next few months.

Happy Autumn!
I love this time of year.
The leaves are turning, the weather is changing which means sweatshirts, sweaters, football games and Thanksgiving right around the corner.
We have had frost much earlier than usual which of course slows things down on our growing season. At this point we have one more week of basket pick up.
We are getting ready for our end of the season Fall Fest with our pig-roast. It will, of course, be at the farm on Saturday the 24th from 3:00-6:00. Please RSVP so we can get an idea of how many to expect. We are opening this up to anyone who is interested in joining next year as well as our shareholders from this year. Please bring a dish to pass and any beverages you may want.

We are also putting together a survey for you to fill out and give us your thoughts (good or bad) on how you feel everything went for the first year as a CSA Farm.

Summer is going fast! Can't believe it's September

Hello everyone!

Boy what a month-
Everything is growing like crazy, even the weeds----yuk! All the produce is tasting wonderful. Some look better than others but that is what you get with organically grown veggies or anything organic for that matter. Some of the melons have some bugs on the outside but if you open it up you will see that it's only on the outside and they are very taste and ripe to perfection.
I hope everyone realise that we are actually able to give more out to our shareholders since we planted 2 acres more for the numbers of shareholders we have. We are very happy to be able to do this for you. One other thing we have been doing with extra produce is giving some out to those in need. This has been a very trying time for all in our state this year and we hope we can help even a few families. One of our shareholder's sister is involved in a mobile food pantry with the Lutheran Church in Comstock Pk and came out and picked and donated some of our extras that we have. They were very grateful for this and we are very pleased to be able to help in even this small way.
As many of you know, we also had that storm a few weeks ago come through like a tornado and did some damage to our trees that we have had for over 100 years. Luckily the garden didn't have too much damage. The corn was sideways for a few days but straightened up again. There may be a few veggies that may have some bruises on them but all in all, we are very lucky!

As we have said before, if anyone wants any extra for canning or freezing you are more than welcome to come out and pick what you need.

Hi to all!!

We are half way through our season and everyone seems to be very happy with what they are receiving.

We only recieved 2 replies back on the "weed & feed" so decided not to go through all the work in planing, orgainizig and preparing for this when it seems like most people are going to be very busy through the rest of the summer. We will keep everyone informed on our end of the season/fall get together as we start planing it.
The weather has been seasonable cooler this summer which is why we have had more snow peas then normal. Like all good things, this is coming to an end but when something ends there is something that begins......Keep your eyes open for what is coming.....

We enjoy seeing everyone each week @ pick ups!

Just a reminder to all:

You, our shareholder, are our #1 priority so if you would like more produce for canning or freezing to keep this fresh produce for the winter, let us know. We can have everything ready for you at your pick up spot which will be a bit more convient for you.

This month is just flying by already.
We have so much sprouting right now. So far we have had Pea Pods, Snow Peas, Spinach, Radishes, arugula, merlot lettuce, butter lettuce, oak lettuce, bibb, a little bit of cauliflower and my fav.... red skin potatoes! And this is just the beginning-Wow-
We have sent Newsletters with every pick up that Andrea has worked hard on. Please give us your comments on the recipes we have been sending. Love to hear feedbacks and don't forget this is where we would like "your" recipes.
If anyone would like to have a Weed & Feed, please let us know. We are thinking about having one but only one share holder has said they would be interested.
A Weed & Feed would be having the shareholders (you), bring a dish to pass and weed part of the garden. We (the farmers) will be cooking something on the grill and also helping out in the garden. This would be a saturday or possible a sunday afternoon for a few hours in August.

IT'S JUNE!!

Hello All-

It is finally here-our first month that we will be harvesting. YEAH!!
Things are looking great-should have our 1st baskets ready with in two weeks.
We are pretty much on schedule like we said-mid June.
If anyone has any recipes for our up coming veggies, please feel free to post on the blog here.

Since Radishes are going to be the first product we have in the basket, I have an awesome recipe from our neighbor and friend, Rick Kurtz.
Very simple and easy.
Put a dab of butter in a frying pan.
clean radishes and cut tips of both ends off and discard.
Slice the radish up and add to pan.
Let cook until soft-can put cover on while cooking which will cook faster if you prefer.
These have a totally different taste then eating them raw-a nice change.

May has already been exciting!!

We have some plants in the ground but need to wait on most until safe from frost.

Check out our website for more pics. Compare the older pictures with the new ones and you'll see how the plants are just growing like crazy.

Also in our website you'll see where we will be for market and our pick up spots for our shareholders.

I couldn't resist taking the picture of the rainbow-it's not the best rainbow picture but I like it. The other picture is of course, Chad & Bud planting peas. Don't let this fool you in thinking they are the only ones doing the work. We all have put in our full share of long hours already. I can prove it by all the bug bites I have-the nats have been horrendous.

Hello Everyone------It is finally April, although it doesn't feel like it and the weather forcast is saying several inches of snow for springbreak-Yeck!
But that doesn't stop us in getting the plants started. We should have the pictures up soon to show us hard at work in the greenhouse. We have over 9000 plants started and some are already sprouting. Looking good! Of Course can't plant in the ground until the end of May but we are on our way to a good season.

First week of March

This week has been a crazy week-warm one day and snow the next-but we have to keep reminding ourselves that we do live in Michigan. Even though our temps were in the teens, we were able to start with the greenhouse. A lot of excitement in the air. Our seeds should be here next week so we are a few steps ahead of schedule. I will keep updating as we go along with our progress. Please feel free to give us your thoughts, ideas, recipes, etc....
This is our blog for our share holders to communicate with each other and us. Oh, by the way this month is 4 of our farmers birthday so if you see,-Bud, Chad, Ava or Andrea-make sure you wish them a Happy Birthday! :-)
